CENTER!

What does center actually mean?  Well, it might be the center of the road, not too far to the left and not to far to the right.  “He was driving down the center of Highway 10.” This could be dangerous, if you “crossed the center line.”

It might be a small town in Eastern Texas. “I live in Center, Texas.” “Where did you grow up?” “I grew up in Center, Texas” you respond. It is not in the center of Texas, but the center of Shelby County, about 17 miles from Louisiana. How many cities are in the center of counties? Where is the center of the United States?

“The center of your problem, is selfishness, Horatio.” Everything that is wrong with you, can be focused on one simple thing. Maybe it is the center of one’s life, like family relationships. A crisis center, is a place where one hopefully can find help.

I like the caramel centers in the Chocolate Candies; or the Chocolate Cream-filled Danish pastry. But I don’t like people who are politically in the center, neither conservative nor liberal. Too far, one way or the other, may be extreme!

“Make sure you center that picture on the wall, Mabel!” But if you have been asked to present at the Academy Awards, you will want to make sure to stand on the mark, and not necessarily “center stage.”

But “keeping centered” really means knowing where the balance is in life. It is not too extreme and yet, knowing what is important and what is not important.

An old proverb says, a “false balance and unrighteous dealings are extremely offensive…” and when you think of that, you know this can create a problem when dealing with someone who is “out of balance.”

It goes on and says, “When swelling and pride come, then emptiness and shame come also; but with the humble–those who are lowly, (those who are primed and chiseled by trials) and they can renounce self–this is skillful and godly Wisdom and soundness.” Prov. 11:1-2

I seek to be a wise man, rather than an arrogant and self-centered man. Keeping centered and balanced in my life, takes time, thought, and insight, but it yields a person of worth. It’s knowing what I need to center my thoughts on in order to make me that kind of person, and striving to act like that in my daily Journey.

In the Midwest this week, we have been hearing about this gigantic snow storm, leaving as much as 10-16″ of snow dumped on is.  The weather people have been on this for a week, and one even said, “I think “there is an 80% chance of 6″ or more by Friday.”

It is noon on Friday, and not a snowflake on the ground. Last night we got what might be considered “an inadequate trace” but we are without, this morning. How wrong could those people be?

I laugh, because they are not fortune-tellers, they are simply people “doing their job.” But as they do their jobs with all the equipment, and insights they have and others around them, they basically come up short, many times in a week, month or year.

Would you keep your job if you were only accurate 30-50% of the time?  Would you be allowed to occupy a job where you probably will be wrong more times than you are right? And yet…today, those people will show up for work, smiles on their faces, and do what they do best all over again.

I think we all need to consider the internal fortitude of these people.  You might say, they are “gluttons for punishment.” How accurate do you have to be, in order to secure a job as a weather-forecaster? Would you be able to do the job, and as wrong as you might be, get up the next day and go back to work, as if you are the “best of the best?”

“…men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God; holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power…” NASB translation of the Bible written 2,000 years ago.

Does that should like the world you live in? Are people like that? Well, to me, it seems like this particular writer was rather accurate. Yet, we don’t believe it, or embrace it as truth.  This is absolutely what the world looks like. Is this the problem of a lot of religious people we know?

This was written to help us understand how man has become so callous to those around, and how he/she acts out in their Journey, but the writer goes on to tell us, that we need to live out our lives THE WAY in which “we learned and grew up understanding.” That from your childhood, you were not taught to be like those people, but rather you were taught differently, from the Word of God and from your parents.

This book, The Bible, has a place in our lives, to help guide us and instruct us. It has a purpose for me in order to understand truth, so that on MY Journey, I will “know the truth and it will set me free.”

THE WAY!

THE WAY!

We all are traveling a Journey in life.  I found my parents, and my family greatly helped me in early years in that Journey. Then when I went to school, I found teachers and peers/classmates/friends helped me along the Journey. As I went off to college it was the same, and in the service there were commanding officers who replaced teachers.

When I went to work, I found employers and people in “chain of command” settings that helped me along the way. But in my life, I also had to make many decisions, on my own instincts, and my own intuition. I had to “muster” up my own reasoning power to make some decisions, and sometimes, I was inadequate to make good decisions with good results. Sometimes, I blew it…and suffered for it.

Robert Frost was my inspiration years ago, and has been my favorite writer to guide me when he suggested in a poem, “THE ROAD NOT TAKEN,” that we choose in life the trails, and paths that we take in our Journey. There are before us at least two trails, one which is well worn, and traveled, and another trail that looks as if no one has gone that way, or at a minimum, very few people choose to walk in that direction.  His conclusion was that the direction he felt best suited his life, was the trail not very well worn. He went in a way which was not usually how others saw the Journey.

I have made many decisions and walked in my Journey, very similar as this poem indicates, of a path which is uniquely processed in my own thinking. I travel alone, and I tread where others do not seem to want to go. The adventure of the Journey is what excites me, not just the destination.

I find the adventure is in the planning of the Journey, the features of what the Journey will be like, and then actually executing the Journey. Yes, I have a destination in mind, but there are many ways to get there, and I am willing to take a left, when others go right. This has made all the difference for me. I regret nothing, along the way, because I knew I made the best choice at that time, and even if I could go back and try a different suggestion, I would not choose a different direction.

Maybe my Journey will help you with insights into your Journey. Surely, you will be surprised by some of MY Journey, but it might also give you new insight into how your can enhance your Journey. Wouldn’t that be great!  To find THE WAY to embrace a Journey that is YOUR Journey. THE WAY!

THE WAY! Mark 12:14

In this world, there seems to be a constant confusion of what is going on around us. Wouldn’t it be helpful, if things began to make sense in politics, in education, in business, in religion, in moral standards, etc.?

Be are told we are on a path to “making America great again!” When does that all start, and how will I know it from where I am standing? In what ways will America be great?

This will definitely be a great year, if things work out the way we have been led to believe. Or maybe, there will be so much chaos, that anarchy will rise up among us.

I sense people from around the country are beginning to see this already happening in their neighborhoods, and among their friends and relatives.

SO WHAT IS THE WAY OUT OF ALL THIS! I hope this will be an inspiration for you to consider “alternative” thinking so that you can find peace, comfort, and joy in your journey.

I hope to “teach THE WAY of God in Truth,…” so that you will find this peace of mind, and your journey will become joyful!  Mark 12:14
